Student Success Statement

"Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there."
                                                                                                      -Bo Jackson

Reflection: Always set the goals you actually want to achieve. Do everything you can to achieve your goal. Be careful not to aim for the impossible because unfortunately there is also the saying, "the higher you fly, the further you fall". The flight of Icarus can be an example.

Student Success Statement

"You can't put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get."
                                                                                                                     -Michael Phelps

Reflection: Limits are barriers that the human mind puts on you. Barriers can represent any problem, from sports to personal. They give you the sense of not progressing, of not being able to continue. What Phelps is trying to teach you is that those "limits" are simply illusions. The more effort put into your "dream", the more likely your able to surpass those barriers of doubt and hopelessness.

Student Success Statement

"Try a little harder to be a little better."
                                                                                               -Gordon B. Hinckley

Reflection: If you put more effort into your goals in life, you will see improvements. Life is about improving your strengths and weaknesses. Reading what Hinckley says, much of the time when he says "do better" he means in the context of your situation. He means try harder at improving, and try hard so that people will admire and respect you, and so on.

                                                                                                            -Thomas J. Watson

Reflection: Achieving excellence is relatively simple. You simply "quit" your bad habits and do your best in everything that you do. Focusing on improving your strength AND weaknesses is key to achieving excellence. The world is competitive so you must strive for the best and never settle for less.

“I wasn't trying to leave a legacy, I was trying to do what was right.”
                                                                                                             -Dean Smith

Reflection: It is not always about winning or leaving behind a legacy or anything of that sort, but the important thing is that you do what is right. From the right actions that you commit, you'll become a legacy and win. So don't focus on leaving a mark- focus on doing what is right in order to then leave a mark. Dean himself says that it wasn't in his intentions to leave behind a legacy but his main goal was to what was right.                             “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”
                                                                                                                  -Aristole

Reflection: The real meaning of education is to open the door of mind and windows of heart. That means you are studying not only to earn money but also to serve humanity. If you hole yourself up and study for the sake of having knowledge then sure, you'll be intelligent, but what good would it do you? An educated heart would be educated in the practice of self-knowledge. It is to understand yourself before you understand the world. To truly know yourself is far more difficult than science and mathematics. People tend to think too highly or too little of themselves, without ever truly understanding whom they really are. An educated heart would be educated about affections, and the ways of interaction.

                                                                                                        -ANON

Reflection: It's better to be by yourself than being with a bad crowd. You would be in more harm if you are with bad company. These can included people who use drugs, steal, etc. It's better to be alone than to be around these people. Being alone does not mean your lonely because you're enjoying your own company.

"You cannot do wrong and feel right. It is impossible."
                                                                                                  -Ezra T. Benson

Reflection: Everyone has a conscience. If you know what you did was wrong, it will not feel right no matter the situation. There is no way you can be comfortable with something you did wrong because eventually you'll feel guilty.
