"The best way to predict your future is to create it."
                                                                                          -Charles Ketterer

Reflection: In order to create the future life that desire you need to have a clear vision of what you want. Having determined what you want, you need to adopt the behavior required to achieve it as well as determine the value why you need it so as to motivate the behavior to attain it. Going to College can be an example. But of course, there are always things that happen to us along the way that we can't predict, like getting hit by a bus.

Progress Report (100 Goals)

Currently my 100 goals are progressing. I've managed to complete 20% of it and plan to do more this week. Some goals that I have require time to be completed (like going to college) and others I can complete as soon as I obtain the opportunity. I will manage to complete this set as soon as I can. Wish me luck!

"Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare."
                                                                                                     -Japanese Proverb

Reflection: Our thoughts, or visions, are simply ideas. If we don't act upon them, they simply become a figment of our imagination. Acting without thinking can prove disastrous results because we do not have a clear "vision" of what we are doing and acting on our emotions. Its is better to clear your mind and then take action.

Glenn Cunningham (Athlete)

Summary: A young boy named Glenn Cunningham had the job of coming to school early each day so that he could use kerosene to start the fire and warm the room before his teacher and his classmates arrived. One cold morning someone mistakenly filled the kerosene container he used with gasoline, and disaster struck.
He had major burns over the lower half of his body and was taken to a nearby county hospital. The doctor told his mother that her son would surely die. The mother was told that since the fire had destroyed so much flesh in the lower part of his body, it would almost be better if he had died, since he was doomed to be a lifetime cripple with no use at all of his lower limbs. His mother refused to let the doctors amputate. Ultimately through his daily massages, Glenn's determination, he did develop the ability first to stand up, then to walk haltingly with help, then to walk by himself and then, miraculously, to run. Later in college Glenn made the track team where his tremendous determination paid off. He eventually received the nickname the "Kansas Flyer."
Reflection: Determination can get you anywhere. Its amazing to to see that Cunningham was able to achieve such a goal. To think that someone could run, helping youth along the way is truly amazing given what Cunningham had been through. For many of us, we would have given up. So, for all facing challenges, and you cannot be a member of the human race without facing challenges, this story should pick each one of us up and get us going toward our own dreams.

"Adversity causes some men to break--others to break records"
                                                                                                      -William A. Ward

Reflection: It all depends on the person's inner strength as to how well they handle adversity. A stress a person faces can be turned into a motivation, and it is possible to overcome it. For others, its too overwhelming for them and it prevents them from progressing. Everyone can learn to overcome adversity by having a positive attitude.

Student Success Statement

"The best inspiration is not to outdo others, but to outdo ourselves"
                                                                                                            -Anonymous

Reflection: One must set goals and achieve them at their own pace. You shouldn't aim to be better than others, you should aim to be better than yourself, to achieve, to help, to learn, to love more. The victories that stick, the ones that build lasting confidence, are the ones where you impress yourself instead of others. It’s easy to win. It’s tougher to win when it requires you to be at the top of your game and constantly improving. But it’s so much more meaningful. In the same way, lasting motivation comes from the bars we set high for ourselves. Humans have a way of working hard to live up to our own standards. For the best measuring stick, look to your past and to your potential. More often than not, when you commit to being your best, the victories will come anyway.
